James Cline
James Cline’s story is one of skill, hard work and determination. At 51 years of age, Cline continues to be a top contender in the dirt racing arena. His determination and hard work exemplifies what one can accomplish in several decades of racing

He was born into the world of dirt racing. His father, legendary Gene Cline was a pioneer of this amazing sport. As Cline grew up, he watched and worked at his father’s side, dreaming of the day he would actually drive a race car.

At the age of 18, Cline began to prove himself, and to those around him, that he had what it takes to become a winning driver. In his first season of racing, he won 14 feature events. Then Cline established himself among dirt “Late Model” racing’s top drivers in the wedge car era of the 1980’s. In 1980, Cline won 19 feature races at two different tracks. Ten of those races were won consistently week after week, at Alabama’s “Talladega Short Track”. Again in 1981, Cline sailed to 9 feature wins with 6 of those wins in a row. Cline continued his winning streak into 1988, when he claimed the “NASCAR, SUNBELT REGION CHAMPIONSHIP” with 14 out of 22 feature races. This title was won by competing with drivers from Alabama, Texas, Florida and Arizona, which included over 200 drivers. He finished 4th out of the 6th Regions nationwide.

In 1990, Cline went on to become the “SOUTHERN ALL-STAR” Champion by claiming top points in a series that traveled throughout the Southeast. Cline was also voted “Most Popular Driver”.

Asphalt racing is no stranger to Cline. He was given the opportunity to compete in the ARCA series at the Talladega Superspeedway and at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. in 1988 and in 1989. Cline has also competed in numerous “Dirt Cars on Asphalt” events with much success. These events were held at the Birmingham International Raceway and the Huntsville Motor Speedway with both tracks located in Alabama. Cline also has competed on several other asphalt tracks in Florida including Lakeland Speedway, Desoto Speedway (St. Petersburg), and Volusia County Speedway in Daytona.

Cline continues today with numerous wins and top ten finishes, traveling to tracks in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas and South Carolina.

Cline contributes his successful career to numerous car owners, to his sponsors and to his crew members.

Today, Cline continues not only to race but has been successful in designing and manufacturing his own race car chassis. The first race of the 2008 race season saw Cline win the feature event with the newly designed “JC3 Race Chassis”.
