Terry Smith
Leader of the pack
Like his sci-fi namesake, Terry the Terminator Smith stealthily
picks off competitors to claim his place at the front of the dirt-track pack.
Make no mistake about itTerry drives clean and fair, but Terry drives to
win.
On and off the track, his record proves his prowess. The Terminator
dominates the dirt oval with countless wins over 25 years of racing including
two (2) Talladega ShortTrack Championships and as last years reigning
Champ of the 6-track Rebel Challenge. Terrys proudest race memory? Says
Terry, I ran a close 2nd to Scott Bloomquist in a $10,000 Talladega
ShortTrack event.
Off the track, Terry is TSR Motorsports. His shop builds more than custom,
precision racecarshe builds future race champions. The Thunder and
Lighting series has long been deemed the right of passage to successful
Late Model racing. Over the last 7 years, young drivers set-up and mentored by
Terry Smith consistently place among the top 7 Thunder cars.
Maybe its the DNA...
Terry is the son of Earl Smith, a living legend at Eldora and beyond. The elder
Smiths race career spans 52 years and counting. Notable career highlights
include running the first Chevy small block engine on dirt and finishing 13th
in the 1962 Daytona 500. Earls long-standing mention in the Guinness Book
of World Records was set on much smaller wheels...Earl Smith holds the unbroken
record for speed roller-skating in the 26-mile marathon.
With 5 kids to feed, Earl could offer Terry only encouragement and a beginner
car. Fueled with Terrys raw passion for racing, it was enough to write
the next chapter in race history. During a 1997 Talladega ShortTrack event,
Terry passed father Earl on the last lap to take the checkered flag.
And Terry still has his original #1 Fan. Mom Jean (currently age 69) never
misses a local race!
